However, you have ask yourself the question of whether you want this large library as a dependency just for exception handling when you can implement it yourself with just a few lines of code. From that point on, we could work with a more functional syntax style. Only this time, you need to define that the function may throw an exception. Example 9. Kino Schleswig can relate a bit to this practice because I personally do not see much value in checked exceptions in Salma Hayek Ungeschminkt, but that is a whole other discussion Demet özdemir I am not going to start here. In that case the integer division will throw an ArithmeticException. Worth watching for what must be one of Christopher Plummer's last roles.

This simply means that we have taken back control. By using the filter function in the Stream APU, we can simply filter out the left instances and, for example, log them.

You can also filter the right instances and simply ignore the exceptional cases. To do so, we simply make a second static lift function like this.

Anyway, it is just a type that can hold two values. On the other hand, you can also take a look at functional libraries that are available.

For instance, VAVR formerly known as Javaslang does have implementations for both types and helper functions available.

I do advise you to take a look at it because it holds a lot more than only these two types. However, you have ask yourself the question of whether you want this large library as a dependency just for exception handling when you can implement it yourself with just a few lines of code.

All in all, a very good film about a difficult period in human history. I loved this movie! Good to see Christopher Plummer again.

I was not familiar with Jai Courtnay, but thought his performance was great as a typical young Nazi Captain, who obviously has issues with his new assignment.

I liked the way the opening scene is finally revealed through his sharing of his issues. His nervousness is shown not only through his dreams, but also his chain smoking.

He turns out to be the star of the movie for me. He does a great job with a many sided character-duty, honor, country, no matter what vs right, wrong and love.

The story focuses on a romance between the Kaiser's SS guard and a maid who turns out to be not only Jewish, but a spy for the British since the Nazis killed her husband and brother.

The story is not entirely convincing but Lily James does a good job as the maid, Mieke. Christopher Plummer plays the ex-Kaiser and Janet McTeer his wife Hermine, the latter scared and tense with their vulnerable situation and determined to indicate loyalty to Hitler although neither she nor the ex-Kaiser are really in favour of the new regime but hope for a restoration of the monarchy.

Plummer at 85 is excellent as the slightly-mad, obsessive man who once ruled a vast empire and thought he was invincible.

McTeer is marvellous, supporting her husband, covering up his tactlessness, displaying courtesy to Nazi visitors particularly the terrifying Himmler but the audience is well-aware of her stress and strain.

Eddie Marsan has a cameo as Himmler and truly brings a sense of serious menace to this ghastly figure of Nazi persecution.

The dinner table scene with Himmler is perhaps the most dramatic in the film, where the anti-semitism of both the Kaiser and his wife and the Nazi is discussed, but where the royal couple draw back from the extremism Himmler displays.

The devilish irony of the Jewish maid standing in the background, having to serve these awful people adds poignancy. While this is not a brilliant film, it has its moments and throws an interesting light on an obscure bit of WWII history though it was in fact Goering, not Himmler, who actually visited the ex-Kaiser in Utrecht.

Lily James and Jai Courtney play their parts respectably but their infatuation and the denouement are unrealistic. Worth watching for what must be one of Christopher Plummer's last roles.

I was totally immersed from the start. I wouldnt normally be drawn to a war film but being a keen fan of Lily James who is brilliant in this I had to give this one a go and am so glad I did.

From the moment Mieke opens the door to Stefan, you feel an attraction as their eyes meet. The relationship moves on at a rather spectacular pace but is highly charged and wonderfully acted by both characters.

I havent come across Jai Courtney before but was utterly amazed to find that he is actually Australian, testament to his portrayal of the German Captain.

Christopher Plummer was totally believable as the exiled Kaiser. I found myself wanting to know more about him; why did he end up in Holland, how and when did he die Throughout the film the tension builds and you wonder how on earth Mieke the spy can possibly escape the SS but she does, with the help of her German Captain and the Kaiser, with performances that are heart wrenching and heart warming, respectively.

The ending is tidy and leaves you feeling positive about the future but it would be wonderful to have a sequel, showing us whether the love story really does have a happy ending and what happens to the Kaiser.

A war film without a lot of blood and guts but full of good acting. Report abuse. Spoilers are throughout this review. Now what possible reason there might have been for this ridiculous disclosure I do not know!

Which together with the ludicrous narrative made this a very disappointing film for me. Very touching film this about one unknown corner of the Third Reich as the deposed Kaiser exiled to Holland still finds himself and his followers under Nazi scrutiny following Hitler's invasion of Holland, with a visit from Himmler and his henchmen with a plot to the Kaiser and his remaining supporters back to Berlin and probably certain death.

Very convincing performances from the Kaiser and his barely concealed resentment of the Bavarian upstart Corporal's new Germany.

Himmler arrives for dinner on a mission from the Fuhrer and deftly destroys any sense of dignity and humanity over dinner, with his outspoken and spine chilling visions of the new Germany, unknowing of an imminent assassination plot against himself.

Action packed thriller with a glimpse of the final farewell of the old dignified pre Nazi Germany. Fine film and the performances by all concerned were excellent,Christopher Plummer is like wine gets better with age ,Don't see enough off the superb Eddie marsan, but lilly James proves she's very versatile.

But jai courtney steels the film for his sensitive portrayal of a conscience stricken German captain. Get a free trial today and find answers on the fly, or master something new and useful.

Developers moving to Java 8 adopt the new approach pretty easily, and the resulting code tends to be shorter and easier to follow, unless you have to deal with exceptions.

Imagine you have a collection of integers, and you want to divide each of them by a constant. A scaling operation like that can be expressed using a stream as in Example 1.

Example 1. A lambda expression that may throw an unchecked exception. The scale method takes a List of integers and a factor to scale by.

The map method takes a Function , one of the new functional interfaces in the java. Then the collect method is used to convert the results back into a List.

The function argument to the map method will encounter a problem if the supplied factor is zero. In that case the integer division will throw an ArithmeticException.

Aside: as an experiment, try dividing a number by the double value 0. You may be either amused or horrified to find that no exception is thrown.

In that case, the returned value is Infinity seriously , and any subsequent calculations will continue on, corrupting values along the way. Believe it or not, this is considered correct behavior according to the IEEE specification for handling floating point calculations in a binary computer.

In other words, this code is fine as it is, at least as far as the compiler is concerned. This works, but makes the code harder to read and understand.

Ideally when writing pipeline code, you would like to keep each intermediate operation as a single line. A good alternative is to extract the function argument to map into a method of its own, as in Example 3.

Developers have been writing code like the divide method for years. It looks familiar, is easy to understand, and even better you can write test cases to make sure it is working the way you expect.

Best of all, the scale method is now simplified so that the intermediate map operation is only a single line.

The same process works, however, for checked exceptions.

Add in their growing respect for the lovable but eccentric Kaiser and here is the story. I love WWII period films.

The settings, the costumes, the cars and feel of authenticity are always interesting. Plummer is always at is finest as are Courtney and James.

Expect some full nudity from Courtney and James but it was in context with the forbidden love story. It's an enjoyable film which could have been much better.

Just enjoy the wonderful cast and setting. I really enjoyed this film. This review has the benefit of seeing previous reviews.

Yes, as stated, there is some relatively obvious sex and nudity. This is not a movie for the kiddies. If you were going into the film expecting an expose of the deposed Kaiser which, honestly the trailers do kind of imply then I could see those aspects being undesirable.

The movie actually revolves around two characters, and the Kaiser, the Princess, and their entourage are bit players to bring out the main plot.

We find out almost immediately that the maid is actually a British spy, and Brandt figures it out pretty rapidly too. By the by, so does the Kaiser who is still a very cagey person despite his staff's feelings about his capabilities.

She is also Jewish, something that she reveals to Brandt almost immediately. So, the story really revolves around what to do with conflicted loyalties and what does devotion and honor mean when your country has devolved into a despicable morass.

Just to be clear, there were no parallels either obvious or even implied with history after World War II - in other words, this movie steers well clear of any current controversies, and for one this viewer appreciated that.

The Kaiser, the Princess, their Aide de Camp, Brandt, and the love interest cum spy were all very well developed characters and all of them were appealing in some ways -- and clearly not in others.

All in all, a very good film about a difficult period in human history. I loved this movie! Good to see Christopher Plummer again. I was not familiar with Jai Courtnay, but thought his performance was great as a typical young Nazi Captain, who obviously has issues with his new assignment.
